Their 7 kinds of Burritos with KILLER SALSA and 12 kinds of Donuts in over 40 flavor combinations make "outside pet-friendly" Rose Bakery Cafe a staple when down in Corona del Mar, OC.
The Grubdown:
- huge, spicy, packed-with-everything-you-need Fiesta Burrito
- ridiculously good, no cost for extra, Homemade Salsa
- cinnamon sugary, moist & fluffy Crumb Cake Donut
- i'm a sucker for the crunchy & sweet Old Fashioned Vanilla Glazed Donut
- creamy & flaky Chocolate Covered Bavarian Cream Filled Donut
Every time I come down to CdM, I visit the Rose Bakery Cafe, or as the locals like to call it "Rose Donuts." (Perhaps the massive Donut Display has something to do with the nickname.) But even if I stop in for just a Latte – they always have enticing seasonal flavors like Pumpkin Spice or Mint Mocha – it's really hard to resist getting one of their Burritos ($5.50-7) served all day.
My personal favorite is the Fiesta Burrito ($7), packed with Three Scrambled Eggs, savory Ham, crispy Bacon, spicy Jalapeno, diced Tomato, Onion, and Cheddar. It's definitely big enough to split, or save the second half for later. And I always like to add Avocado for an extra .85¢.
While the burritos are juicy, satisfying, and super crave-worthy, sometimes I feel like they're just a prelude to Rose's amazing Homemade Salsa. They serve it pureed, so it's super smooth. It has just the right amount of spice and is great for dipping or pouring on. And don't be afraid to ask for seconds, 'cuz it's FREE!
As for the donuts, you really can't go wrong with any of them. They're baked fresh daily, and made with Cholesterol & Trans Fat Free Palm Oil. Rose's has 12 different kinds from French Crullers to Bear Claws, and over 40 different flavor combinations like Cherry Frosting with Wholesome Nuts or Chocolate Glaze with Coconut Flakes. Besides my favorites listed in The Grubdown, the Apple Fritter is also noteworthy for its wholesome apple cinnamon pie taste with a honey glazed donut crunch.
Other Breakfast items include Egg Bagels ($4.50-6), Croissandwiches ($4.50-5.50), Omelet Platters ($7.55-8.25), lowfat muffins & various pastries ($1.85-2). For Lunch there are 10 different sandwiches ($5.75-6.95) from Chicken Salad Classic to Roast Beef, and 14 kinds of Burgers ($4.25-6.75) including Breaded Cod & Polish Sausage. Along with Regular or Curly Fries, and
Onion Rings, they also serve Zucchini Fries ($2.75), which is always a
plus. Not to worry, they've got Vegetarian options too.
Besides Fresh Squeezed Lemonade and Arnold Palmers, Rose makes Smoothies ($4.25) like the Fruity Tuity with Cranberry, Peach, Pineapple & Strawberry Ice Cream, and Espresso Shakes ($4.25-4.75) like the Rose Creamocha Frost with 1 shot of Espresso, Chocolate Ice Cream, Creme de Cocoa Syrup, and ice.
As of now, Rose Bakery Cafe does not have a website, so check out the FULL MENU in my pics at the top, find them at 3536 East Coast Highway, Suite C, Corona del Mar, CA 92625, or call in a Phone Order at 949-675-3151. They're open for Breakfast & Lunch only, Monday thru Saturday from 5am-6pm; Sunday 5am-5pm.
So enjoy! And betcha can't have just one bite of their delicious donuts.
