Next time you're driving up California's Central Coast, make a Clam Chowder stop at Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill in quaint, small-town Cambria, 35 miles north of San Luis Obispo.
The Grubdown:
- creamy, soul-satisfying Moonstone New England-style Clam Chowder in a soft 'n flaky Sourdough Bread Bowl with Buttery Toasted Top
- crunchy 'n tender Coconut Prawns with sweet Chutney Dipping Sauce
- the never-ending sweet 'n sparkly Mumm Napa Cuvee M Champagne Split
Whenever I visit my hand model's hometown of Cambria – full of shops, wineries, and distinctive art galleries like Every Cowboy's RanchHouse – I always make a point to get the locally renowned Chowder and Champagne at the seaside Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill. They have one of the best – and the biggest – patios overlooking the beautiful, wave-crashing, sea otter-lined beach. The creamy Moonstone Chowder Bread Bowl ($12.95) is not too rich and is packed with just the right amount of clams, potatoes, mushrooms, and celery. The puffy, buttery toasted chunks of Sourdough Bread on the side are perfect for dipping – or, in my case, shoveling. The crunchy, yet tender Coconut Prawns ($14.95) have sweet shreds of Coconut and a tangy Chutney Dipping Sauce. One of my favorite champagnes, Mumm Napa Cuvee M, which I first discovered here and now can't live without, is crisp, a little sweet, and the Champagne Split ($9) pours 3 glasses – a definite deal. The restaurant also has a full bar, only open 'til 9pm, and is very popular for Sunday Brunch from 9am–3pm, where you can lounge on the patio, soak in the sun, smell the ocean air, watch the waves & walkers-by, while enjoying Pacific Coast Toast with Oregon Berries, Grand Marnier & Chantilly Cream, or the Hang Town Fry Omelette with Fried Oysters, Bacon & Jalapeno Cream Sauce. You may never want to leave. Happy Biting!
i like that view.. so peaceful place.
