Some people visit Kennebunkport, Maine to see the famous Bush Family Summer House and take in the New England charm – my family drives from Rhode Island 3 hours in the pouring rain, both ways, strictly for the Lobstah!
As you can see, when it comes to Lobstah my family doesn't mess around. But more importantly, neither does Hurricane Restaurant in the heart of town.
The Grubdown:
- the-whole-net-and-kaboodle, buttery, crunchy, savory Baked Stuffed Maine Lobster with the freshest Scallops, Crabmeat & Shrimp ($45)
- smooth, creamy, heavenly Hot Boiled Maine Lobster with Steamed Local Mussels in a Spanish Onion, White Wine, Tomato & Lobster Broth ($39)
- to-die-for, rich, fluffy, hazelnuty Chocolate Hurricane Mousse with Godiva Creme Anglaise ($8)
Don't let the prices scare you. The abundance of seafood piled high or down below is enough to fill you up – and that doesn't even include the lobster. If you like it fancy, go for the Baked Stuffed. It's packed with Scallops, Shrimp & Crab with a Parmesan, Lemony, Parsley Breadcrumb Stuffing that's wholesome and super satisfying.
If you're a purist, then get the Boiled Lobster – obvi. But what's not expected is the sizeable entree portion of Mussels laid underneath it, in a lapable White Wine, Garlic Broth with gems of sweet Spanish Onions, tangy Caper Berries, and zesty Sun-Dried Tomatoes. (Tip: Make sure to ask for extra Sourdough Bread to dip while your significant hand model kindly breaks apart the lobster for you.)
Whether you like to enjoy an Apertif or one of their "Boat Drinks" (see menu pictured above) with dessert, definitely do not miss the Chocolate Hurricane Mousse. It's 3 layers of O.M.G. – Hazelnuty Chocolate top, Chocolate Ganache middle, and Chocolate Cookie Crumble bottom with an Almond Extract, Creme Anglaise.
After you've indulged in the very best of what Maine has to offer, sit (or sin) a little longer with a bottle of wine while watching the boats sail by in the un-obstructed window views of the harbor.
