Last Wednesday, a.k.a. "Getaway Day", when the winds were blowin' and the roads were crawling, fate was intervening when I spotted the Patty Wagon Food Truck on the way to the 101 freeway. I had been waiting soooooo long to try this truck, that I didn't have a care in the world I was about to stuff myself proper – after a 5 mile run of course – the very next Thanksgiving Day.
The Grubdown:
- one of the tender 'n juiciest beef patties you'll ever have, sans any chewy bits of course, Mini Classic Burger with Cheddar, Crisp Romaine & Vine-Ripened Tomato ($2.75 ea)
- gourmet style, savory, oniony 'n tart Mini Shine On Harvest Moon Burger with Warm Bacon, Leeks, Cabbage, Pink Lady Apple Slice, Havarti Cheese & Mayo ($3.75)
- my new favorite type of fry, cut Mandoline-style Original Sea Salt & Rosemary Garlic Fries ($3 ea)
The atmosphere Patty Wagon provides is so pleasant with classic '40s music pumping, I even chose to brave eating outside on their cute sunflower-topped ironing board, in the shade, with gusty winds, frigid temperatures (for LA), no proper coat, and blue fingers.
Patty Wagon stands by their "pre-food chain" motto. Their Grass-fed, low-fat, hormone-free, omega-three Beef is from cows exclusively pasture-raised in Teton Valley, Idaho. Their Buns are bought from a local LA "Valley" baker. Their hand-cut fries are made from locally grown Potatoes. And their accompaniments like Tomatoes & Leeks are from various local farmers, listed specifically on the truck's weekly menu.
From the first bite to the last bite of The Classic, I can honestly say I've never had a purer burger with Meat so clean, fresh, and fatty free. Your teeth will sink first into the buttery, crispy-edged Bun, then directly through the tender, juicy meat.
The Shine On Harvest Burger special was a must-order, 'cuz I love anything with Leeks. It's savory 'n sweet with a caramelized oniony flavor, thin Pink Lady Apple slice, smokey Havarti Cheese & Bacon – the hand model and I fought like children over it.
And the Fries – To Die. Forget the Shoestring, these Mandoline-cut Potatoes are thin almost like they're shaved. They're crisp on the outside, yet still fluffy on the inside. And either flavors – Original or Rosemary (explosion) Garlic – will tempt you to order 4 more.
I seriously cannot wait to go back!
Follow @PattyWagonLA for Your Next Bite. Tomorrow for lunch they'll be in DTLA on 9th & Hope near FIDM.
The food truck business is a real great thing. I don't see what's bad in great diverse tastes, low cost food and great people. I sure prefer it over any fast food restaurant in the local mall. Will certainly visit your site more often now.
