It's a New Year, which means it's time for a New Build-Your-Own-Burger joint with a full bar, like The Counter in Miracle Mile, and a New Resolution to break. Luckily for me, I ate at the new spot before Christmas, so there'll be no resolution-breaking for me. (FYI, Your Next Bite has started a January Raw Detox, so watch out for some interesting meals this month to come.)
The Grubdown:
- salty 'n crispy on the outside, soft 'n sweet on the inside Sweet Potato Fries with addictive creamy Dijon Aioli $4.50
- tastes like cornmeal-crusted Fried Dill Pickle Chips with Sweet 'n Sour Sauce $1.75 single/$4 regular
- incredible, never-ending new flavors, did NOT want to share with my hand model Backyard BBQ Burger in a Bowl with Lettuce Blend, Horseradish Cheddar, Chopped Red Onion, Coleslaw, Crispy Onion Strings, Scallions, Tomatoes, Country Buttermilk Ranch & Sweet BBQ Sauce $11
- sadly overcooked, really nothing special except for the fabulous pickle ketchup, The Old School Signature 1/3 lb Beef Burger with Tillamook Cheddar, Lettuce Blend, Red Onion, Pickle, Tomato & "Red Relish" $8.50
A burger joint with reasonably priced Craft Beers, Wines, Martins, and "Adult" Shakes along Miracle Mile's ever-growing restaurant row on Wilshire Blvd – um, yes please!
My hand model & I couldn't have been more excited to see The Counter finally open up near the new Starbucks that just opened up next door to the fabulous Mixt Greens. After waiting in a ridiculously long lunch line, upon being seated the manager offered us a free plate of Sweet Potato Fries – hallelujah! They taste pretty standard in flavor, but it's the tangy, spicy Dijon Aioli that really gets you good.
We then ordered the Fried Dill Pickle Chips for the first time. And while they had a nice Cornmeal-like crunch and Buttermilk flavor, we could barely finish the plate.
When my ginormous Backyard BBQ Burger in a Bowl arrived, my tastebuds leapt at the fork. Now I've had Horseradish Cheddar before, but paired with Tangy BBQ Sauce, thin 'n crispy Fried Onion Strings, creamy Coleslaw, and a char-grilled 1/3 lb Beef patty, it definitely makes for one delicious dish you won't wanna share. (Bite Advice: skip the Black Forest Ham, substitute the Lettuce Blend for Organic Mixed Greens, and dip your Burger bites into the Ranch & BBQ Sauces instead of drizzling them on top. This way will be much more in line with your New Years Resolutions!)
After switching out my Burger Bowl for my hand model's Old School Burger on a Bun, I was disappointed – he was delighted – 'cuz unfortunately the Burger was overcooked. Even the Bun was too thick 'n bready, despite it's pretty golden color and butteriness. The best part was the sweet chunks of Pickle in the "Red Relish" Ketchup. (Bite Advice: make sure you order your burger medium rare to avoid any mishap). At least the waitress was very apologetic and the service couldn't be friendlier.
Don't get discouraged, though, 'cuz we can't wait to go back for the Thin Mint Adult Shake ($8.50), Unique Veggie Burger with a rockin' lookin' Multigrain Oat Bran speckled Bun ($8.50), and a pint of Flying Dog Raging Bitch IPA ($6.50) because that IS it's name – only after my Detox, of course.
