Last weekend's 40 inch snowfall in Tahoe was the best resorts like Squaw Valley & Alpine Meadows have seen all season. Naturally, Your Next Bite just happened to plan her snowboard trip accordingly with restaurant recommendations from what should be known as the city's Mayor-ette.
If you've never been to Tahoe, the town is sprinkled with a ton of eatery options from fine dining to earthy and down-home. One honorable mention that I forgot to snap a pic of is The Dam Cafe. It's perfect for picking up a breakfast burrito before boarding – be it the crispy peppered Bacon Burly-Rito, or Vegan-Rito popping with Sprouts, Avocado, Rustic Rice & Goddess Dressing. (After going twice in 3 days, let's just say you won't be disappointed.)
But enough about breakfast, here's where to go for dinner.
The Grubdown:
1.) Christy Hill - perched right on Lake Tahoe with sweeping panoramic views, this is the place to enjoy a special meal with fine ingredients
- plump 'n crunchy with a touch of zest, Artichoke Hearts with Panko Breadcrumbs, Parmesan, Parsley & Lemon Aioli (Special)
- what's not to love from these saucey, savory, buttery Side of Collared Greens with Bacon $4
- fish was light 'n fluffy with crunchy skin, but the veg was undercooked Pan Roasted Striped Bass with Morel Mushrooms, Green Garlic, English Peas & Tendrils in Mussel Ver Jus $28
- nice char but slightly overcooked, incredible glaze, with unfortunately no where to be found Foie Gras Mash, New York Steak with Mashed Potatoes, Steamed Spinach, Mushrooms, Parsnip Sticks & Red Wine Glaze (Special)
- the perfect dessert that's a must order, Liesel's Chocolate Espresso Cheesecake with Grand Marnier Chocolate Sauce, Crunchy Espresso Beans & Oreo-like Crust $9
2.) Spindleshanks - it's the perfect place to let loose with some down-home comfort food & live music
- sweet 'n fresh with a bitter bite, Spinach Salad with Asian Pears, Candied Pecans, Gorgonzola & White Wine Vinaigrette $11
- their signature sinful dish (order 20 minutes ahead) that's creamy, cheesy, hearty 'n spicy, Baked Oysters Bienzo with Spinach, Andouille Sausage, Crab & Cheese Blend $15
- more cutlet style than loin making it surprisingly addictive, Loin of Pork Schnitzel with Parsley Bowtie Noodles, Caramelized Onion, Zucchini & Lemon Butter $22
- another classic favorite, juicy, blackened 'n fatty in all the right ways Brick Chick with Mushroom Pot Stickers, Sesame Ginger Vinaigrette & Asian Slaw $22
While Your Next Bite left many more spots unturned, I'm glad to have tried these two Tahoe classics, and you will be too.
