With Cinco de Mayo nearing and my increasing needs to find good Mexican food in the OC, I thought it was only fitting to blog my latest venture, La Fogata.
Truth be told I actually used to frequent here back in the day, but since then my palate has changed – unfortunately their depth of flavor hasn't.
La Fogata is known for "Fresh & Healthy Mexican" cuisine with no preservatives, chemicals, lard, frozen meats, even microwaves. They use 100% Olive Oil, grill all their vegetables, and even bake – instead of fry – their Chile Rellenos.
Located in the Albertson's strip mall off East Coast Highway, this place can be easy to miss. (But if you know where Gina's Pizza is, it's basically next door.)
The Grubdown:
- meat is succulent & juicy, but portions are too big, could've used more of a slathering of the red sauce, Chicken Enchilada with Natural Wisconsin Cheese and Chipotle Sauce (as part of 2 item combo $12.99)
- the size of the Vegetable chunks are overwhelming and end up watering it down, Grilled Pasilla Chile Relleno stuffed with fresh Zucchini, Squash, Red & Green Peppers, Onion, and Cheese (as part of 2 item combo $12.99)
- surprisingly savory, warm 'n comforting, Side of Jasmine Spanish Rice with Peas and Side of Black Beans
- build your own style, meat could've been more seasoned and less chewy, Two Marinated Lean Charbroiled Steak Tacos with White & Blue Corn Tortillas $4.69
Let's face it. You go to La Fogata for their juicy Rotisserie Chicken, oversized yet still healthy Burritos, and their Fresh Salsa Bar.
If greasy, authentic Mexican is what you're craving, then Fogata-bout it.
