During the fall, I like to have my daily Pumpkin, just like Alain Coumont – owner of Le Pain Quotidien in Fashion Island – likes to have his "daily bread".
The minute you step inside, the smell of baked bread surrounds you like a warm blanket. Think Organic Wheat, Walnut, Rye, 5-Grain, Spelt – and I haven't even touched on the Pastries. Imagine Pain Au Chocolate, Apple Canneles, Bluberry Lemon Scones, and visions of Sugar Plum Tarts dancing in your head.
Only eat wheat, gluten-free, or vegan? No problem, 'cuz this carb heaven has got you covered.
But, there's no way you're escaping the bakery line without wandering in to try one of their signature Tartines (open-faced Belgian sandwiches), or one of my favorite quiches on the planet that I crave, well, daily.
The Grubdown:
- moist 'n nutty with a Cinnamon kick, Pumpkin Seed seasonal Muffin $3.85
- all the elements are here, sweet, salty, creamy with a touch of acid, Proscuitto, Pear & Fresh Fig Tartine with Organic Farmer's Cheese, Organic Honey & Arugula $13.95
- not sure why they call it this because it's all about my love for the stringy Leeks & melty Cheese, Spinach & Mushroom Quiche with Gruyere & Leeks $11.50
One thing I love about Le Pain Quotidien is their generosity with the accoutrement. The Quiche dish comes with a simple, yet fragrant Pesto Side Salad, and a slice of Cantaloupe to clean your palate.
You must order any piece of "Pain" to serve as a canvas for the complimentary Apricot Jam, 4 Red Fruit Jam, and sinful Nutella-like "Noisella" Spread on their picnic tables.
