As the weather gets warmer and summer approaches, there's no better place to bask in the sun for brunch than George's at The Cove in La Jolla.
Make sure to score a reservation beforehand, as the wait can be up to two hours. But, if you're stuck in line, belly up to the ocean terrace bar. There you can order from their bistro menu, and down cocktails like the Bloody Mary with house-infused Jalapeno & Bell Pepper Vodka $10 or The Skinny (only 120 calories) with Absolut Vodka, Kiwi, Strawberry & Lime $13.
When seated at a table, you'll enjoy views of La Jolla's cove from the packs of divers & kayakers in the Pacific to the seals below. (Bite Advice: you might not want to sit too close to the edge, if you nose what I mean).
My favorite spot to dine is the round table in the far left corner. It's perfect for a group of 6-8 and you feel like the world is your oyster – well, at least the view is.
Here's what dishes to grub on from Executive Chef & Partner, Trey Foshee, at one of San Diego's consistently voted 'Most Popular Restaurants" by Zagat.
The Grubdown:
- light buttery, garlic 'n citrus sauce with snappy pita bread-sticks, just wish there were more than three green leaves, Grilled White Shrimp with Zucchini, Hearts of Romaine, Tabbouleh Salad & Yogurt-Mint Pomegranate Sauce $15
- tender, juicy, spicy fish on crunchy bread, salad is lightly dressed, Blackened Seasonal Fish Sandwich with Albacore, Avocado, Lettuce, Onions, Tomato & Cucumber-Yogurt Relish $13.50
- sticky sweet 'n citrus with a hint of spice, Citrus Almond Tart with Orange Marmalade, Ginger Creme Anglaise & divine Burnt Honey Ice Cream $8.50
Overall, the food was very Mediterranean and light, and for once we left brunch without feeling stuffed. I just wish the flavors packed a little more punch.
