If you couldn't face the Taco Tuesday Cinco de Mayo crowd, there's still a reason to celebrate, because El Cholo – a SoCal Mexican mainstay since 1923 – has opened up in Corona del Mar.
Located in the old Landmark spot on PCH, El Cholo brings a bright new makeover to the space from the decor to the friendly service. The patio is filled with lush banana leaf plants, giving it that south of the border feel, while the interior has accents like Spanish round candelabra chandeliers.
When it comes to the food and drink, El Cholo has been making history since 1959 – when their own Carmen Rocha invented "Nachos". Unlike most restaurants in Southern California, El Cholo prides themselves on bringing tradition to the table, which is why each menu item includes the date the dish was created.
