Last Saturday, the hand model and I made an impromptu visit to Pizza Nova. Why? It's simple. We wanted pizza, we wanted a bay view, e voila – Pizza Nova had it all.
Even though it's located in the very old Josh Slocum's spot on PCH, which can't ever seem to hold a restaurant down, I believe Pizza Nova is here to stay.
Contrary to popular Newport Beach belief, Pizza Nova is not associated with the former Villa Nova restaurant. It's actually been a San Diego locally owned & operated spot since 1990. Upon reading the vast menu, chock full of appetizers like Meatballs and Artichoke Dip, Salads, Sandwiches, Pastas, and Pizzas, it kind of reminded me of California Pizza Kitchen, but much more upscale.
The Grubdown:
- spicy 'n creamy with super fluffy dough, Pepperoni White Woodfired Pizza with Fresh Garlic, Alfredo Sauce, Mozzarella, Fontina, Ricotta & Parmesan
- great balance of flavors from tangy to creamy with perfectly tender fish, Seared Salmon and Risotto with Fresh Tomato, Basil, Spinach, Parmesan & Home-made Pesto Sauce
- buttery 'n bouncy, Garlic Rolls
- strong 'n sweet strawberry puree like a daiquiri, Sunshine Cooler with Gordon's Vodka, Strawberry Puree, Fresh Basil & Lemon
From the food to the views and friendly service, the hand model and I were super impressed.
Their hand-stretched Pizza Dough is incredibly soft 'n delicious, and I didn't want to give up the Salmon to share.
