This Halloween, I dare you to try some scary good Squid Ink treats.
This liquid, secreted from cephalopods as a defense mechanism against predators, is considered a delicacy. It contains dopamine and free amino acids like taurine to get your party going.
Because it's black in color, it's often used as a dye, and also by chefs to add a devilishly rich umami flavor.
Here's a list of Squid Ink treats to try from LA to OC.

Hostaria del Piccolo, Santa Monica
- forget Italy, this pizza whisks you away to Asia with umami, earthy, seaweed 'n celery salt, Tonno Nera Pizze Bianche with Squid Ink Dough, Fresh Tuna, Green Onions, Mozzarella & Pizzaiola Crudo Sauce $18
