Sidecar Doughnuts are seriously the best Doughnuts ever made. In fact, they make every other "donut" shop look just plain amateur.
Located on hip 17th Street in Costa Mesa, Sidecar always hosts a long line outside the door – especially on the weekends. It's no wonder, because they make their Doughnuts from scratch daily with house made glazes, fillings, and toppings.
Sidecar uses seasonal ingredients, too, for special "Monthly Flavors" like November's Pumpkin Fool and Apple Fritter – the perfect solution for breakfast on Thanksgiving Day.
Past favorites of mine include Blackberry & Rose Geranium with Edible Flowers, and classics like Rocky Road. Regular "Daily Flavors" not to be missed include Maple Bacon and Butter & Salt.
The Grubdown:
- whipped fluffy insanely deliciousness that's even better than pumpkin pie, Pumpkin Fool Raised Doughnut with House Made Pumpkin & Mascarpone Mousse, Whipped Sour Cream & Gingersnap Crumble $3.75
- light, airy 'n tart with a crunchy exterio, Apple Fritter with fresh Apples & Vanilla Bean Glaze $3.25
- glistening, drool-worthy, salty 'n sweet, Maple Bacon Raised Doughnut with Pure Vermont Maple Syrup Glaze & Niman Ranch Bacon $3.25
If you can't wait until Thanksgiving to enjoy them, I don't blame you. 'Tis the season of eating.
P.S. Make sure to grab a bite of the free doughnut samples while standing in line.
