This Saturday, July 22nd is Manchego in Santa Monica's Bacon Festival! It's a time to celebrate Spanish culture, and the pigs they honor, who roam freely "in pasture and oak groves and feed naturally on grass, acorns + roots".
If you know anything about Your Next Bite, then you know Spanish Tapas is my absolute favorite, from the ultimate Cobras & Matadors in LA to Pueblo and Vaca in Orange County.
Manchego reminds me a lot of Cobras & Matadors. It's lively, intimate, authentic, and while they don't have my favorite Crispy Green Lentils with Jamon Serrano dish, they do have some incredible Bacon-Wrapped Dates with a twist.
The Grubdown:
- divine, tart 'n sweet, Jamon Wrapped Dates with Spanish Goat Cheese, Microgreens, and Pomegranate Seeds $10
- buttery, nutty and some Paprika spice, selection of Spanish Cheeses, Charcuterie & Pickles $21 for 3
- creamy 'n crunchy, Crispy Jamon Tostado with Burrata Cheese, Microgreens & Fig Jam $9
- greasy in a good way 'n heaping spicy garlic sauce, Patatas with Garlic Aioli $8
- tender with Mediterranean influence, Grilled Lamb Chops with Tzatziki & crispy Capers $19
- spicy 'n flaky, Braised Beef Empanadas $12
- can't stop lapping up the broth, Gambas Spicy Garlic Shrimp $15
- crispy to pieces, Brussel Sprouts with Bacon, Mushroom & Vinagre de Jerez $11
As you can read, there's much Bacon & Jamon to be celebrated, having been in 3 of the 8 dishes above.
Make sure to snag yourself a reservation, otherwise you'll be waiting in line outside with the rest of the droolers.
Salud!
