If you're looking for some last minute plans to celebrate Happy Hour this Labor Day – most likely accompanied by the entire 405 freeway that was headed southbound to San Diego this past Saturday – then check out The Brigantine Seafood & Oyster Bar in Coronado Island.
My family and I used to frequent The Brigantine a lot when I was little. I remember it was always packed, especially on the patio, and it had an old-school nautical ship vibe. Recently, The Brigantine underwent a forced remodel by the city. Our waiter told us how locals and frequenters of the restaurant were so sad to lose a piece of history that many took of 'a piece of The Brig' home, from decorative items to entire booths!
The new remodel is a modern sea venture with cool blues, beiges, and driftwoods, and a few nautical elements like ship wheels and gold metal fish hung on the wall.
The food is still just as good, with one of the best and most filling Happy Hours around! (The hand model and I ordered 3 Happy Hour items and just one Dinner Entree.)
The Grubdown:
- great size, blackened, tender 'n crunchy, Swordfish Grilled Taco with Red Cabbage, Cheddar Cheese, Salsa, Crema & Lime on a Corn Tortilla $5
- bacony sweet, Spinach Salad with Bacon, Diced Tomato, Hard-Boiled Egg & Cider-Cottage Cheese Vinaigrette $6.75
- tangy with just the right amount of crunch, Monterey Artichoke Fritters with Parmesan & Lemon Aioli $8.75
- lemon buttery 'n umami, Halibut Special with Lemon Beurre Blanc & Mushroom Ravioli (MP)
While the decor was different, the food definitely brought memories back to my mouth.
Today, The Brigantine has 7 locations across San Diego from Del Mar to Imperial Beach (opening soon).
Happy Hour is offered daily: Monday from 4:00pm-10:00pm, Tuesday-Sunday from 4:00pm-6:00pm, and Late Nite Daily from Dining Room Closing to Bar Closing.
1333 Orange Avenue, Coronado, CA 92118. 619-435-4166.
