If you're going to check out the Ta Bom Brazilian Food Truck, "it's good" if you stick with their Brazilian specialties, like the juicy Beef Pastel or cinnamon sugary Banana Pastel.
I'm having a slight love/hate relationship with the Ta Bom Brazilian Food Truck. Perhaps it's the fact that I'm only a quarter Portuguese. Or, maybe because the two separate occasions I've been were completely different, except for the fact that the majorly enticing Gisele Wrap ($7) – Chicken, Fruits, Vegetables, no Bundchen, all inside a Spinach Wrap – had run out.
The Grubdown:
- juicy, tender, light 'n airy, a little spicy Seasoned Ground Beef Pastel with Peas & Carrots
- sweet cinnamon sugary, light and airy Banana Pastel
- i've had better Chicken & Top Sirloin Steak Tacos with Onions, Cilantro & Homemade Chili Sauce
- a little dry, kinda tasted like tuna Coxinha Croquette with Shredded Chicken & Cream Cheese
- way better than Red Bull will ever taste, naturally caffeinated Guarana Antarctica Soda
The first time I visited Ta Bom it was fairly new. It was the end of the lunch run, around 2:00pm, and they had run out of almost all menu items, except for the Steak & Chicken Tacos and Coxinhas.
Unfortunately both the Chicken & Steak Tacos ($2 each) were on the dry side. No new flavors and nothing really to write home about, so I won't.
Same goes for the Coxinha ($3) – a dome-shaped Croquette that was also dry, tasted like tuna, and you couldn't even tell there was cream cheese inside.
The best thing we had that day was my hand model, Evan's, favorite beverage, Guarana Antarctica ($2.50) – kind of like Sprite with a kick because it's naturally caffeinated from the Guarana plant.
BUT on my 2nd trip, Ta Bom had their Brazilian Pastels available – still no Gisele Wrap :( – and Ev and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED them!
The Beef Pastel ($3) had a wonderful Chili Seasoning that gave it some spice. The Ground Beef was so tender the juices were flowing out of it. The Peas and Carrots popped in our mouths, while the flaky Filo Pastry was super light and airy.
The Banana Pastel ($3) was amazing too with a generous dusting of Cinnamon Sugar on top, and warm, gooey Sliced Bananas inside. You can also get it topped with Nutella – next time!
I don't recommend splitting the Pastels because their size is perfect for one person. But they're so good you might wanna get two or three.
I've heard "bom" things about Ta Bom's Cachorro Quente ($4) – Brazilian Hot Dog with Beef Sausage, Corn, Potato Stix, Ketchup, Mustard & Mayo – and their "explosion of ingredients" Hamburgao ($7) – topped with Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Potato Stix, Corn, Lettuce, Tomato, Thousand Island & Mayo. So I'm definitely eager to try those, and that Spinach Wrap, too. One day we will meet, Gisele, one day!
You'll also be happy to know that Ta Bom uses only Organic Meats, including Grass-fed, Sustainable, Estancia beef.
